Moeggesukkel - Why they are our first Gift Partner

Moeggesukkel’s founder walked through his own seasons of struggle. He experienced real hardship, real pain, and moments that could have broken him.

Instead, he chose to turn his experience into something deeply meaningful: a place of hope for others who feel forgotten.

His courage, compassion, and determination to transform his own suffering into support for his community is exactly why Moeggesukkel is our first Gift Partner.

When you gift through Penn & Pan to Moeggesukkel, you’re helping turn someone else’s darkest moment into light.

A Sanctuary of Hope

Moeggesukkel (Daar is Hoop) is a Centurion-based non-profit that provides food, shelter, and dignity to people facing homelessness, addiction, or hardship.
Founded by Jacques Papenfus, the organisation began with a single shared meal and has grown into a community that restores lives every day.
They feed over 200 people daily, offer rehabilitation and job skills, and give people the tools to rebuild with pride and purpose.

“It’s not about a handout. It’s about helping people find their feet again.”

WHY PENN & PAN SUPPORTS MOEGGESUKKEL
Because giving should be real, human, and hopeful.
Through our partnership, every Penn & Pan gift voucher can help fund essentials like:

  • Electricity – keeping lights on at the Moeggesukkel care centre and homes they support.
  • Groceries – ensuring every plate is filled.
  • Clothing – restoring dignity for those starting over.

When you send a voucher through Penn & Pan, you can now choose Moeggesukkel as your recipient directly. Empowering lives through practical help.

HOW IT WORKS

  • Register with Penn & Pan
  • Purchase a Penn & Pan voucher.
  • Select “Donate via Partner” → choose Moeggesukkel – Daar is Hoop.
  • We send your voucher value straight to Moeggesukkel to use for what’s needed most:
    Electricity, groceries, or clothing.
  • You’ll still earn your 1% cashback, quietly rewarding your kindness, to do with as you choose.

Run almost entirely by volunteers, the St Vincent de Paul Society is a worldwide organisation of lay Catholics who want to express their faith through service to the poor.

The Society of St Vincent de Paul is an international Catholic charity network. It has been operating in South Africa since 1856 and is a registered non-profit and public benefit organisation (NPO 003/193).

Every day, our 2500 members and volunteers reach out to vulnerable and marginalised people in their local community. We aim to provide a hand up, not just a hand out.

At the core of our work are over 200 parish committees known as ‘conferences’. These are groups of members from all walks of life who join together to relieve suffering and promote human dignity amongst the poor.

Autonomy of the Society of St Vincent de Paul

In response to queries received from members of the Society of St Vincent de Paul and the Clergy of the Roman Catholic Church in South Africa in respect of the relationship between the Society, the Church, Caritas and other Catholic Sodalities, SSVP South Africa issued this Statement of the Autonomy of the Society of St Vincent de Paul in May 2023.
